~ Horticulturist, Master Gardener ~

M y writing career started over 25 years ago when one of my landscape design clients marched into the local newspaper office with my newsletter, announcing “You need a garden column and you need her to write it!” That was the spark that led to over 600 newspaper garden columns for Morris News Service, the Athens (Georgia) Banner-Herald and Northwest Arkansas Morning News (many under my maiden name of Connie Fugedy). I have written columns for Georgia Gardening, Southern Distinction, Lee, and LakeLife magazines, and have also been published in Conifer Quarterly, History, Museum Store, The Azalean, Country Journal, GEORGIA, Columbia County, Georgia Family and New South Gardener magazines and Gardener’s Confidence® Collection website. I also enjoy writing Love Notes from the Garden, a lighthearted, informative email from your garden meant to inspire you to spend time there. You can sign up to receive these free, weekly emails at

I am also a speaker, landscape architect, a staff member of The State Botanical Garden of Georgia, a Lifetime Master Gardener, a garden club lady, and a member of GWA: The Association for Garden Communicators. It’s an interesting life, especially when I have the opportunity to meet new people, share information, and visit gardens. Talks to clubs and organizations or as part of seminars include the 2014 Southern Garden Heritage Conference, 2010 National Conifer Society Annual Meeting, State Botanical Garden of Georgia Native Plant Symposium, Historic Houses Museum Workshop, Garden Club Landscape Design School, Arkansas Recreation and Parks Association Annual Meeting, and classes within University of Georgia Continuing Education Center and the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. See upcoming talks here.
