D r. David Byrne received his Bachelor degree in Plant Sciences from Rutgers University in 1976. He received his Ph.D. in Plant Breeding in 1980 from Cornell University. He became a member of the Graduate Faculty of Texas A&M University in 1984. Dr. Byrne advises graduate students by giving them direction and guidance in their research program

Today he conducts the Prunus and Rosa- Breeding and Genetic Programs. In addition he teaches classes in fruit and nut production, tropical horticulture, and plant breeding and genetics. He is a Professor and Basye Endowed Chair in Rose Genetics. His dream is to produce the rose that is resistant to black spots disease. Dr. Byrne’s research includes stone fruit as well as rose breeding and genetics.
