innias are members of the Sunflower family. They are native to the grasslands and scrub of the southwestern United States and South America (mostly Mexico). They were first discovered in Mexico in the 1500’s and brought to Europe in the mid- 1600’s.
Zinnias are typically annuals, but there are at least two varieties that are perennials. Some areas they are even biannual. An easy to grow annual makes them a good accent for your summer garden. They attract Butterflies and Hummingbirds. The Hummingbirds, in turn, eat Aphids.
