Strawflowers

 
Y es, they were so named because they feel like straw or stiff paper. Strawflowers are a member of the daisy family. They are native to Austria. Austrian refer to them as “Everlasting or Paper Daisy” They were introduced to Germany in 1850’s where they were cultivated. Strawflowers grow wild in the New England region of the United States.
They bloom from summer to fall in multi-colors and solids. Dwarf sizes grow to a height of 20 inches; other sizes grow to be 2-3 feet tall. They will survive in poor soil but flourish in good garden soil. They prefer full sun. Their blooms are 2-3 inches across.


Their popularity has grown because:
• They attract Butterflies and Hummingbirds
• Strawflowers dry well because they naturally have a low moisture content.
• Naturally feel like straw or paper.
