S usan McBean graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor degree in Natural Resources. She has worked in North Carolina State Parks since 1993. First by way of Jordon Lake State Park, Haw River State Park, Browns Summit and now Grandfather’s Mountain State Park where she has been for almost seven years as the Park’s Superintendant. Susan is the first Superintendent of Grandfather Mountain. June of 2016 the North Carolina Park System acquired 2,456 acres of land. Susan has been very busy hiring extras staff, forming new hiking trails in addition to the already 12 miles of trails around the mountain. And camp grounds. She is forming a citizens community advisory committee. Susan also has certifications in environmental education and advanced law enforcement. She serves as a law enforcement instructor for the division.

Grandfather’s Moutain is very prolificate with wildflowers from spring until fall. Susan will share with us how to plant and care for wildflowers in our gardens.
